Best Children's Books

How do you measure the importance of books? The simple answer is that you can't. From the moment a caveman first drew a crude picture on a rock to depict his life, to a world of digital libraries, representation of the world around us has educated and developed the human race.
Books are the means not only of recording information but of expressing ideas and emotions. They can describe the functions of an engine or be a flight of magical fancy to capture the imagination of a child.

When my daughter was small we lived in Rudyard Kipling country in southern England. Although famous for "Jungle Book" Kipling also wrote a charming children's book "Puck of Pook Hill" telling the history of the countryside where we lived. Each chapter starts with a poem describing what happened and I would quote these as we passed through. So the Romans, Vikings and smugglers all came to life. Now my daughter does the same with her children, such is the magic of words.

I have included lists of my favorite books for children. Some are well-known favorites, others may be new to you. I haven't included the real classics that everyone (hopefully) has read. These children's books are all available at Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk where Amazon also reviews most books to help in your selection.

Children should be encouraged to look at and learn to read books from a very early age. Personalized books are a great way to stimulate their imagination, allowing them to feel part of the story.
