Baby Acne

Baby acne is a common occurrence affecting newborn babies around four weeks old. Doctors believe that it may be the result of hormones transferred from the mother shortly before and during birth. Tiny pimples show on the face and occasionally on other parts of the body. They often appear as tiny whiteheads surrounded by red and seem more prominent when the baby is hot.

Although as a mother you may think it is unsightly, baby acne is not serious and should clear up by the time baby is three months old. However you should always talk to your physician or health worker who will confirm it is baby acne and not eczema.

Baby acne should be treated with the same gentle care as teen or adult acne. Rubbing the skin will only worsen the condition. It should be gently washed with water or a mild baby soap.Always use a gentle detergent and rinse baby clothes thoroughly. If the condition worsens or does not disappear by about three months, your doctor may prescribe a mild medication.

All mothers want their new baby to look perfect, but baby acne is a very common condition and if you are patient it will disappear.
